Happy New Year!

We begin 2010 with Jean Luc Goddard's Breathless. This film is in French with English Subtitles.

Stylish and sexy, Breathless (A bout de souffle) has been considered the epitome of cinematic cool. A fast tale of a young man on the run in Paris at the end of the 1950s, the film shook up the film world on its release and has made a long lasting impression on cinematic history.

The film debut of Jean Luc Goddard, this film spearheaded the French new wave of film making - recognised as one of the most sylish and influential movements in cinema.

This film is at 1845 at the Prince Charles Cinema. Tickers are £6.50

Last Film club of 2009: Where the Wild Things Are

December's film club takes us to see Where the Wild Things Are (Dir Spike Jonze).

It is an adaptation of a children's fantasy picture book that has been transformed into a feature length film.

Time Out gives the film 4 stars, calling it a "beautifully photographed; Jonze...approaches atavistic fantasy with jarring formal and phsychological realism". Read the full review and watch a trailer here.

When
Wed 16th December; Film starts at 1840
Meet in foyer for tickets at 1820.

Where

Odeon Tottenham Court Road.

How much?

£11.20 but it is Orange Wednesday so we might see how many orange phones we have and come to a fair arrangment  on the night to split the cost evenly. If you arrive late we probably won't be able to accomodate that but let's play it by ear!

Any questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Don't forget if you scroll down this blog you will find all the film club dates for the next 8 months; put them in your 2010 diary now!

Film club does Disaster Film!

November's film club will take place on Tuesday 17th November, and this month we are going to see the new Disaster Film, 2012!

It's not your typical film club choice but we thought we'd go for a blockbuster and explore the Disaster Movie genre.

It gets 4 stars in Time Out, who say ...."catch it on the biggest, noisiest screen available and approach it on its own terms, and it’ll knock your socks off."

So that's what we'll do!

Where better to enjoy a massive blockbuster than in the heart of Leicester Square? So we'll be seeing 2012 in the Vue Cinema, Leicester Square.

Tickets are £11.90 which we know is a bit steep but we thought if we're going to do big Hollywood Blockbuster, we should do it properly. We will aim to keep costs down in future - although we're not able to meet on Orange Wednesdays due to other commitments.

The film starts at 7.30pm. We shall meet in the Lobby at 7.15pm.

A bit of History

The idea for film club came about when Chris held a Film Festival at the BFI Southbank. He went to see three different films over three nights. Sadly the event was not well attended, but it did spark up an interest from Georgina who suggested making a regular event of film going - with a discussion in the pub afterwards.

So far we have seen

Slumdog Millionaire

Vicky, Christina, Barcelona.

A Hitchcock Double Bill at the Rio in Dalston (on one of the sunniest days in the year)

Broken Embraces
